Ask HN: Lesser known features of macOS/iPadOS/iOS/etc. 27

Hi there!

I've just upgraded my Mac and iPad OSes to 27 and found some interesting features that I haven't seen listed elsewhere:

- Screen mirroring to iPad now accepts touchscreen inputs

- iPad menu bar can now be always turned on

- The sidebars aren't floating, just like before Tahoe

- Decreased window border radius

- Increased resize window area

The weather app for new precipitation and wind forecasts that can be seen in the 10 day forecast, without having to tap on every day for details.

A power button was added into the control center on iOS (top right corner). Maybe this existed before, but I don’t remember it.

AI wallpapers can be made on iOS with image playground, right from within the lock screen configuration area.

On the lock screen config, you can tap the clock and then tap some icon with a couple rectangles on it, to shrink the clock way down.

Wallet is now better at picking up and adding tracking for purchases being shipped. This also shows up in Mail, where Wallet injects a widget into your shipping email with the current status.

You can turn off the voice message button in Messages that I’m sure everyone has accidentally triggered multiple times.

I enjoy the ethernet status in the menubar in lieu of WiFi. Finally.

Ah! That's what that is! I am so pleased, I've maintained a shell script forever to make sure MacOS is prioritizing the Ethernet adapter, I can delete that damn thing now.

      How do you do that?

I think you need to prioritize the Ethernet device in network settings but I'm not at my Mac now to check.

Switching cards in Apple Pay on iOS is easier in apps. Just swiping in a carousel.

    > Screen mirroring to iPad now accepts touchscreen inputs

    This is a useful feature

The Shortcuts app can now take instructions in English, which seems quite useful too

Yeah, that's true! I find it very boring to create automations manually, this will help a lot
